Susanna De Castro battled cancer for more than nine years. Sadly, on May 26, 2018, she lost her fight surrounded by family and friends. Instead of flowers at her funeral, Susanna asked people to donate to BCRC-WA, which raised around $3000.
For seven years before she died, Susanna held an annual afternoon tea to raise funds for breast cancer. Three years ago, she focused her fundraising efforts specifically on BCRC-WA because she felt so fortunate to be under the care of Professor Chan.
The afternoon tea’s main purpose was to fundraise, but it was also a way for Susanna to show her appreciation and to do her bit.
On Saturday 27 October 2018, Susanna’s Afternoon Tea was hosted by her mother and sister, Linda and Ester Vicentini. It was a great success and a wonderful yet very emotional event as it was the first time her family had honoured her.
So many people attended and many more who were not able to be there were there in spirit. Food, drinks and prizes were plentiful. Susanna’s goal was to always do better than the previous year and Linda and Ester achieved this.
Susanna’s family are proud to continue her work and legacy to support other families going through breast cancer. They would like to thank Professor Chan and the staff who cared for her and for them.
They can be assured their fundraising efforts will go a long way to supporting the work being done at BCRC-WA.
