The shearing shed of Quentin and Di Davies at Cardiff Stud in Yorkrakine hosted the ninth annual Shearing for Liz Pink Day on September 10 2022. The event shattered previous records by raising an impressive $164,200 for the Breast Cancer Research Centre – WA. Over the course of nine years, the Shearing for Liz team has amassed a remarkable total exceeding $400,000 dedicated to breast cancer research in WA.

The impact of the 2022 fundraising campaign extended beyond the event itself. Notably, 37 studs from across WA generously donated valuable rams for auction. Collaborating with the Shearing for Liz team, agribusiness companies Elders and Nutrien orchestrated the ram sales, significantly bolstering the overall contribution.

The monumental endeavor was spearheaded by Quentin Davies and Tom Reed, along with their families. This accomplishment was made achievable by the unwavering generosity of regional farmers and businesses in WA, who selflessly offered their rams and other items for auction.

The inception of ‘Shearing for Liz’ Day was a heartfelt tribute orchestrated by Tom Reed of Jumbuk Shearing and his wife Lucy. Their motivation stemmed from honoring the memory of their dear friend Liz Roberts, who battled metastatic breast cancer for eight years before passing away in 2014. Their initiative has evolved into not only a potent fundraising campaign but also a valuable platform fostering breast cancer awareness and education within WA’s farming communities.
