Paddle for a Purpose: Making Waves for BCRC-WA
On October 5th, 2024, Trigg Beach buzzed with excitement as the Paddle for a Purpose event took center stage. Organized by Club Shakas Communities in partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Centre – WA (BCRC-WA), the event brought together passionate participants for a moving paddle-out, raising awareness and an incredible $10,000 for breast cancer research and support initiatives.
Thanks to the collective effort of participants, sponsors, and volunteers, the day was a testament to the power of community and compassion. Local media coverage from Channels 7, 9, and 10 amplified the message, proving that when people unite for a cause, they can create ripples of change.
Paddle for a Purpose wasn’t easy—the paddle itself was incredibly tough, and not everyone made it out to the circle. But that challenge is why we’re here. Each wave, each wipeout, perfectly symbolizes the breast cancer journey. It’s not smooth sailing, but with strength, support, and determination, we push through. We are so grateful to everyone who paddled, donated, and supported this event. Your efforts make an incredible difference.

A Day to Remember
Drawing inspiration from the Hawaiian tradition of the paddle-out, participants paddled into the ocean, forming a circle to honour and remember those affected by breast cancer. It was a powerful moment—one of reflection, tribute, and celebration of resilience.
This wasn’t about breaking records; it was about making waves of change,

The event kicked off with an electric atmosphere as paddlers gathered at Trigg Beach, all united by a shared purpose. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly, from setting up refreshment stations to cheering on participants.
Thanks to Surfing WA, spare surfboards were available for those eager to join the paddle-out, and the Trigg Surf Life Saving Club provided safety support throughout the day.
Although breaking the record for the largest paddle-out remains a future goal, the impact of the event went far beyond numbers. The $10,000 raised will directly support BCRC-WA’s cutting-edge research, clinical care, and support services for patients navigating their breast cancer journey.
Looking Ahead (2025)
The Paddle for a Purpose event left a lasting impression on all who took part. Organizers are already looking forward to making next year’s event even bigger and better. This year’s event showed the profound impact of collective action and brought hope to countless individuals.
A massive thank-you to our amazing sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who paddled or cheered us on. Every single dollar raised and every paddle stroke—okay, or wipeout—helps us make a difference. You all crushed it!
