Explore our journey through time, milestones, and continuing dedication.
From 2001 to 2009, Professor Arlene Chan initiated clinical trials in collaboration with the Mount Hospital.
Originally born out of the Clinical Trials Unit while operating from the Mount Hospital, the specialized Breast Cancer Trials Unit (BCTU) was dedicated to advancing breast cancer research through clinical trials, pioneering innovative treatments, and providing hope for patients through cutting-edge therapies.
The BCTU staff, employed by Mount, was financially supported through income generated from Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials.
Breast Cancer Research Centre – WA was established as a not-for profit, registered charitable organisation. This allowed us to direct donations to research, support and education programs for our patients and their families.
BCTU was integrated into BCRC-WA from 2009, solidifying our dedication to advancing breast cancer research via clinical trials, pioneering innovative treatments, and offering cutting-edge therapies to instill hope in patients. This consolidation further reinforced our commitment to providing a holistic approach in the treatment of both male and female breast cancer patients, pooling our expertise and resources.
In 2016, the Breast Cancer Research Centre – WA (BCRC-WA) achieved a significant milestone by moving its operations from the Mount Hospital to Hollywood Hospital.
In 2020, the Breast Cancer Research Centre – WA (BCRC-WA) embarked on an exciting new chapter by relocating to the Hollywood Consulting Centre within Hollywood Hospital. This move marked a significant upgrade in our facilities, enabling us to better serve breast cancer patients, conduct cutting-edge research, and offer comprehensive support.
Moreover, we proudly welcomed the establishment of the Perth Breast Cancer Institute into BCRC-WA. This union not only expanded our research capabilities but also allowed us to provide a holistic approach to breast cancer care, offering patients access to research, support, and clinical care all under one roof. This milestone reinforced our commitment to improving the lives of those affected by breast cancer through a multidimensional approach to treatment and care.
Our organisation is a Western Australian first and has the backing of Ramsay Health Care and Hollywood Private Hospital.
Today, BCRC-WA stands as a beacon of hope for those impacted by breast cancer. With unwavering dedication, passionate researchers, and the support of our community, we are at the forefront of breast cancer research and care.
Our journey is far from over. BCRC-WA is committed to pushing the boundaries of breast cancer research, supporting patients every step fo the way, and working tirelessly until breast cancer is a thing of the past.
Join us in our mission to make breast cancer history.
