Breast Cancer Research Centre - WA

Thank you Mum

Steve, Kat and Joe Tedge

In 2011 my entire families lives were turned on their head. My mother was diagnosed with Stage 1 Grade 2 breast cancer. Being only 10 years old at the time, I couldn’t comprehend the idea of not having my best friend in my everyday life,  and now at 18, it’s become apparent to me the amount of resilience and perspective breast cancer gives to those who survive it.

Those who know my mum Katrina, know that she is one of the most selfless and compassionate people you could come across, whether that is in the field of teaching or outside of her working life or with me on the weekends. I still remember vividly spending the majority of my holidays going to Mum’s radiation and oncology appointments. Despite all the 6 hour trips from Kalgoorlie to Perth and the rehabilitating effects of chemotherapy, she is still here today and leading by example, making the most of everyday.

Last year, with her “Something Pink” fundraiser, she and her team raised over $100,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Centre-WA, which has gone towards their new Perth Breast Cancer Institute (PBCI), a specialised breast cancer centre providing fully integrated professional patient services and support.  This is the first of its kind in Western Australia.

Her passion for helping others inspires me, she has fought like a warrior and come out a survivor.

Thank you Mum
