Dying to Know
Education Workshop
While conversations around death, dying and future care can be difficult, planning ahead is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and our loved ones. This event will provide practical information, resources and expert insights to support advance care planning and end-of-life decisions, while creating a supportive space to connect, learn and normalise these important conversations. Support people are warmly welcome, with food and refreshments provided.

Francoise Ballatyne
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST
Francoise is a Clinical Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience supporting children, families and women through life’s most challenging experiences. Drawing on her Master’s research in resilience, her approach focuses on strengthening coping strategies, fostering meaningful relationships, and enhancing overall emotional well-being.
Over the past decade, Francoise has specialised in women’s health, with extensive experience in breast cancer and perinatal mental health. She is passionate about supporting women through the emotional challenges of illness, trauma and major life events, providing compassionate, evidence-based care that helps build resilience, reduce distress and improve well-being.
Karen Anderson
COUNSELLOR, PSYCHOTHERAPIST
Karen is a psychodynamic psychotherapist, counsellor, couple and family therapist, and academic with more than 30 years of experience in psychosocial care. She has worked extensively across oncology, palliative care and disability, supporting individuals and families through some of life’s most challenging experiences. Karen is also a lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Edith Cowan University and has been in private practice in Western Australia since 1992.
Julia Kennington
ADVANCE CARE PLANNING SUPPORT
Julia is a community services professional with more than 20 years of experience in aged and community care. With qualifications in community services, dementia care practice, chaplaincy and pastoral care, she is passionate about empowering people to make informed choices about their care. Since joining Palliative Care WA in 2022, Julia has specialised in advance care planning, helping individuals explore their values, document their wishes and plan for future healthcare decisions with confidence.
